Introduction
The Design Guidance – Medications Views
document provides you with guidance and recommendations for displaying a patient’s
medications in clinical applications. It enables unambiguous display of medications,
while enhancing patient safety and clinical application usability by:
- Providing task-based views, with appropriate navigational and functional controls
- Representing a clear and comprehensive picture of a patient’s medications
- Supporting the initiation of actions on medications, and showing the sequences of
prescriptions and concurrent medications
- Speeding up the task of locating sets of medications within lists, and allowing
the medications to be quickly organized and re-organized
- Reducing the risk that overdue medications can be missed, by identifying clearly
due and overdue medications
- Reducing the risk that medication doses and strengths are misinterpreted
- Meeting the varying needs of different roles, user types and activities, and providing
different levels of detail and granularity
